Philips Sonicare HX6972/10 FlexCare Plus Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush
wanted to find out what all the hype was nowadays about electric toothbrushes as opposed to the conventional method of buying a cheap toothbrush for a couple of dollars and manually brushing. I didn’t think an electric toothbrush could be so much better that I would be convinced to part with 100 dollars or more put it this way. I have had electric brushes in the past, when they were first introduced to the market and got tired of the batteries constantly running out and the brush eventually coming to a complete stop mid way through brushing my teeth so I went into this slightly sceptical to say the least.
How wrong I was, there is more to rechargeable toothbrushes than you might think and after some extensive research I decided on the Philips Sonicare HX6972/10 FlexCare Plus Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush. A couple of reasons for this, it gets great reviews from over 150 Amazon Customers, the Sonicare technology which really does do what it says, and the Sanitizer, I think this is a great way to give you the confidence that you are getting a great clean every time you use it.
I have definitely not been disappointed with the Philips Sonicare HX6972/10 FlexCare Plus Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush and would 100% recommend it to you if you are considering investing in an electric toothbrush yourself.
What to Look for When Buying an Electric Toothbrush
- Replaceable Brush Heads
- Is it Rechargeable?
- Does it have a Timer?
- Good Brush Head Design
- How durable is it?
Replaceable Brush Heads
It’s important to invest in a good quality electric toothbrush with a detachable head allowing you to use the brush for many years, check the availability of the toothbrush heads in shops and online, if you pick a recognisable brand, they should be readily available. It’s also worth checking how much they cost and figure out how much you are willing to spend overall when considering changing the brush head around every 3 months. Some cheaper electric toothbrushes are intended to be disposable and therefore do not come with replaceable brush heads.
Does it have a Timer?
The recommended time for cleaning your teeth is 2 minutes. Many toothbrushes come with a timer which will tell you when those two minutes are up and many have additional features and setting for different types of cleaning. The Philips Flexcare Sonicare+ has various timer features depending on the type of clean you want.
Good Brush Head Design
Look for a well designed brush head which will allow for thorough cleaning of your teeth and gums, angled brush heads are often the best for this. Some toothbrushes now come with a choice of heads to suit.
How Durable is it?
If you’re shelling out upwards of 150 dollars then you want something that’s going to last. Check out other customer reviews and warranty details on the toothbrush you choose to purchase for a good indication.

- Cleaning Modes
The advanced new Gum Care mode on the Philips Sonicare Flexcare + will give you two minutes of overall cleaning followed by one minute of gentle cleaning to focus on trouble spots along the gumline. This will improve overall oral hygiene and gingivitis which many adults and especially smokers suffer from. FlexCare+ promises to improve gum health after only 2 weeks of normal usage as the technology used helps prevent gums receding, and also helps reduce bleeding and gum inflammation.
The Sonicare technology in this Philips toothbrush keeps your teeth naturally whiter with the broader brush strokes and contact with each tooth. The dynamic cleaning action removes everyday stains, keeping teeth naturally whiter.
The angled brush head of the Philips Sonicare is designed to make it easier to reach the back teeth, and with 31,000 brush strokes per minute removing plaque in these more difficult to reach areas and along the gum line.
Sonic Technology Drives Fluid to Stimulate Gums.
Sonic technology is based on two separate mechanisms, the first is the conventional method of cleaning by the scrubbing action on the surface of the teeth, and the second however is unique to Sonicare and is based on the intense speed of which the bristles vibrate. This vibratory motion imparts energy to the fluids surrounding the teeth (saliva). The motion of these fluids can dislodge dental plaque, even beyond where the bristles of the toothbrush actually touch. This claim is unique to sonic.
Is it Rechargeable?
Rechargeable toothbrushes are the best in my opinion as you don’t have to buy any batteries for them, which believe me, can be very costly and a nuisance when they run out and you have no spares. With the rechargeable type they usually come with a charge stand so you just pop it on the stand at the end of every use and you’ll never run out of power.
The fact that this toothbrush comes with a charger is very convenient and means you never have to worry about changing batteries. One charge will provide 42 2 minute brushes. Based on using this twice a day, that will give you over 3 weeks of brushing without having to recharge, it also comes with a handy travel charger.
UV Brush Head Sanitizer
One of the unique things about the Philips Sonicare Flexcare+ is that it comes with a UV brush head sanitizer. This helps you keep bacteria away from your brush head, and out of your mouth. The sanitizer helps eliminate up to 99 percent of select bacteria and viruses and is clinically proven to eliminate gum disease in 2 weeks.
Some conditions, such as diabetes, require that you pay special attention to your teeth and gums in order to better maintain your health.
Offers 5 different cleaning modes including:
Clean – thorough clean in two minutes.
Sensitive- for gentle but thorough cleaning of the gums.
Refresh – for quick one minute touch-ups.
Massage – to stimulate the gums
Gum care – compete 2 minute clean plus a 1 minute gentle clean for the gum line and problem areas.
How Much Should You Pay?
The Philips Sonicare Flexcare+ is available on Philips own website for $189.99 however you shouldn’t really pay more than $150 for it. Amazon is currently selling this product for just $127.49 including free shipping which is the cheapest I have seen it.

One gripe a few consumers have of this product is that the travel charger does not fit into the travel case, however this should only be a real problem if you are travelling for two weeks or more since the toothbrush holds its charge for 3 weeks.
