InSinkErator Evolution Compact 3/4 HP
I’ve heard so much hype about these Household Food Waste Disposers that I just had to find out more having never owned one myself. What could be easier than just putting the waste straight in the trash? I thought.
It’s like when dish washers first became really popular in newly fitted kitchens and people were upgrading their kitchen to include a dishwasher. Everyone thought it was a luxury item that you could really do without, not anymore, I recently rented a house temporarily that didn’t have a dishwasher and how I missed it!
So maybe the InSinkErator Evolution would have the same effect and become a necessity in every household kitchen having replaced the older types of Food Waste Disposers.
So read on to discover exactly what I thought after purchasing the InSinkErator Compact, I certainly wasn’t disappointed.
What to Look for When Buying a Food Waste Disposer
- The quality of the cutters
- Motor Size
- Noise Output
The Quality of the Cutters
There are 2 types of cutters, one type rotates and the other type is stationary. In general the better the quality of waste disposal unit, the better grind ability it has.
The cheaper models have the lightweight galvanised cutters and the more expensive models usually have the extra heavy impellors and sometimes extra ‘’rippers’’ which are made of cast iron. The InSinkErator Compact ¾ has two grind stages ‘multigrind’ for grinding more with less noise and the grind chamber is made of stainless steel.
The motor size should be around ½ or ¾ HP (Horse Power) or a minimum of 475 watts.
The InSinkErator Evolution Compact comes equipped with ¾ HP continuous feed and as mentioned above the multigrind technology ensures it can deal with even the most difficult waste like chicken bones, rib bones, potato peels etc.
This all depends on the available space you have in your cabinet, be sure to check the dimensions first to ensure it will fit in the space available. Having a shelf underneath the unit can cause problems with some units which have their reset/overload buttons on the base.
The InSinkErator Waste Disposal unit I am reviewing is the compact version which was great for me as I had restricted space for it to actually fit. The exact dimensions for this particular Food Waste Disposal unit are:
Length: 13 inches
Width: 9 inches
Height: 13 inches
Think about the amount of times each day that may use the InSinkErator, for example if you prepare fresh food or meat at each meal time or at various intervals throughout the day, you might find you use this unit 3 or 4 times per day. With something used that frequently, you really don’t want to have to stop a conversation or disturb your neighbours every time you use it.
The InSinkErator Evolution promises to deliver a new standard in sound performance, claiming to be 30% quieter than standard disposers, and I can honestly say that I agree. I didn’t own one of these before but having compared it to a friend’s unit which is several years old now; I am pleased to say mine is much quieter, so much so that you can actually have a normal conversation at the sink while running the Evolution Compact.
Great Features of the InSinkErator Evolution Compact
- Sound Seal Technology
- Multi Grind Technology
- Fairly easy to install
- Environmentally friendly
Sound Seal Technology
The reason the InSinkErator Evolution is much quieter than most other food waste units is because it has an anti vibration mount which stops it rattling away as you use it as well as insulation to limit the sound and noise levels.
Multi Grind Technology
As opposed to other units, the InSinkErator features a two stage grinding process which allows you to grind food waste better and more efficiently. Even bones and potato peels are almost completely liquefied to ensure they flow safely.
Easy to Install
InSinkErators claim that the Evolution Compact is easy to install left me feeling slightly apprehensive to say the least especially as I was not replacing an older unit. I can honestly say that my expectations were most definitely exceeded as I found their ‘quick lock sink mount’ system relatively easy. The instructions that come with the unit are very clear, although if in doubt, I would recommend calling a local plumber to fit it for you.
This goes without saying, rather than throwing your rubbish away, clogging up your bins, smelling your house out, adding to the mountains of decaying rubbish in land fill sites. Simply put it into the InSinkErator for it to be liquefied and treated at the wastewater treatment plant where it will be recycled. The average electrical usage for the Evolution Compact is just three to four kilowatt hours per year and one gallon of water usage per person per day. This makes it one of the least expensive kitchen appliances you can install.
